New improvments in gas and liquid vaporization

Spray Visualisation done at the "Ecole des Mines d’Ales" (France), in June 2007.
Nitrogen / water mixture is injected in ambient atmosphere (20°C and atmospheric pressure, open volume).
Water flow rate is about 0.8 g/min
Nitrogen Flow rate is about 200 sccm
The injection frequency is 5 Hz.
The plate on which the Injection Head is fixed, is at 200°C.

The video is slowed down (10 times slower than actual time) in order to observe the flow dynamics.

First video of the mist/aerosol generated by Kemstream innovative Injection Head

A video showing an injection sequence with our new Injection Head in a glass container can be downloaded here.
The liquid used is a low vapour pressure hydrocarbon (1 torr @ 105°C). At the beginning of the video, only 1000sccm of carrier gas are injected. After a while, the liquid injection (1g/min) is also started and immediately a mist/aerosol is observed. The video well shows that the atomization of the liquid is very fine. After the stopping of both the liquid and the carrier gas flows, one can see that the mist is remaining a while inside the glass container. That also demonstrates that the atomization is very fine because the liquid droplets remain in suspension inside the gas.
Please note that if this experiment is made with a more volatile liquid such as n-octane or toluene, a big part of the liquid vaporize at room T and thus the mist/aerosol cannot be observed.
